We are a Spanish company that, about 28 years ago, had a close relative diagnosed with the rare disease Marshall-Smith-Weaver syndrome.
As he grew older, we saw that, within the bounds of each and every one of his limitations, he loved to play with his toys just like any other child. However, due to deformities in his hands, and after several operations, he still was not able to properly grasp his favourite toy, and thus enjoy it as any other child would.
It was at that moment that we began to investigate and look for a solution to solve this problem. Surprisingly, we could not find any aid suitable for helping him. There were no paediatric aids. Everything was designed for adults, not little hands, and was made of a hard material, was hard to keep clean, and looked like an orthopaedic tool for use in a hospital.
So, we decided to come up with something that was comfortable for him, and that would help him play freely play, without having to worry about hurting himself.
That is exactly how Aid Bones came to life. We wanted to make sure that it was 100% hypo-allergenic, food-grade silicone, totally free of phthalates, bisphenol and BPA, in short, without anything in any way toxic, since we knew he was going to put it in his mouth at some point. In addition, after all the experiences we had with the different models we tried, we realized the importance of cleaning and drying to prevent diseases, and of using a material that is soft to the touch, non-slip, and ergonomic.
We also realized that it was a good idea to use bright colours, so that the aid would be like another toy for the child, and other children would not be taken aback on seeing it or treat him any different because of it. What then surprised us was that we saw that it was great for adults too, who would use the colours to help distinguish between different sizes for different uses.
Aid Bones easily attach the body part that the user wants to use to any everyday object, such as a fork, toy, toothbrush or paintbrush, so that they can use it without having to exert a force to grip it.
For us, it was a great satisfaction to see the child gain greater independence both in play and in the daily activities that arose as the years went on.
This is why we decided to make them available to everyone who might need them, in order to help them improve their quality of life, self-confidence and independence in general.
